New Zealand EPA Refused to Import and Produce Insecticide Ortus
Because of the risk of bees, New Zealand EPA refused to import and produce insecticide Ortus. EPA believe that this production can not adhere to seeds well, the raise dust is very dangerous for bees when sowing.
The active content of this production is neonicotinoid insecticide- Thiamethoxam, EU has
carried out a 2-years restriction for it so they can launch a full investigation.
Agriculture spokesman of green party Steffan Browning said he hopes EPA can carry out a strict investigation to insecticide that used for seed-coating. He said although Ortus was prohibited, there are other kinds of insecticide that ued for seed-coating, it is a new opportunity for EPA to launch investigation again.
Agricultural industry of New Zealand said there are no actual evidence that neonicotinoid pesticide is dangerous for bees.
